Excellent Analytics is here!

Excellent Analytics, a simple Excel plug-in that lets you import web analytics data from Google Analytics, has been released.

Excellent Analytics

  • Build queries with all dimensions and metrics available in Google Analytics
  • Apply filters to create advanced queries
  • All queries are stored in the spreadsheet

Imported data is stored in the spreadsheet so you can sort, manipulate and distribute the data to anyone using Microsoft Excel.

Use Microsoft Excel to combine web analytics data from Google Analytics with offline data from any other source. Excellent Analytics makes this easy!

The tool was upgraded in July and the instructions on how to use it were updated in the beginning of August: http://excellentanalytics.com/how-to/

Please let us know if you have any issues that still persist. Be as specific as possible.

nice tool, some feedback – would like to be able to:

    - pull in my own goals
    - remember my last query
    - choose weekly/monthly blocks
    - combine profiles
    - see pages/visit

also, what’s with time on site?

  • Andreas says:

Thanks for solving the no data issue. It’s working wonderfully now.

    Feature request:
The GA API returns at most 10,000 rows at a time after which it requires pagination. Would it be possible to build this functionality into the plugin (i.e. start_row=10001)?

    Keep up the good work!

  • Emiel Kamzol says:

Great update it works, let’s play ;-) Upfront thanks for this great app.

  • Sherri says:

The Excellent Analytics.dll.manifest will not install for me so I can’t run the program. Any suggestions?

  • Mark Red says:

In the latest version of Excellent Analytics (ver 1.0.0.38) a problem with authentication (log in) is solved and the problem that no data was fetched in to the spreadsheet is also solved. Download the new version and read the How to section for information how to upgrade.

  • Gustavo says:

    Hi,

THANKS for ur open source plugin app

Ive just downloaded ur app and succesfully launched the plug-in in Excel.

I get a view on my accounts, dimensions and metrics but after selecting several combinations and several profiles including .com .com.ar , nothing happened…

    :-(

    Any news that may help?

Gustavo – Buenos Aires – Argentina

  • Chad says:

Can’t login…says “Invalid password/username” even though I’m using the correct username and password.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

  • Hi Mark,

Following a comment on the web analytics demystified Yahoo group (someone change the code to change the date format).

The problem happens with users that have the date format (in Windows/Control Panel/Regional and Language Settings) set to something different that yyyy-dd-mm.

You should try to make your plugin work with these different scenarios. Thanks for excellentanalytics!!!

    Cheers,

    Andres

  • Teddie says:

Same issue here Mark, can’t get any data into XL 2007. Also notice that the Goal options don’t match all the API ones. Could be a very nice tool though.

  • Gerry White says:

Would be great if anyone can do a youtube video, this does look excellent but I haven’t been able to get any results yet …

  • Emiel Kamzol says:

I have also try this app, installing went good but I don’t see any query results. And I’m sure that i selected the correct dimensions en metric. Are there any bugs that you know?

  • Florian Pihs says:

Same problem as above. Simple query: Visits / Day for 1 week. Result: Empty Spreadsheet

  • Mark Red says:

We are aware that some users can’t retrieve data in to the spreadsheet. We are working to solve this problem!

  • Mathieu says:

    HI,

I’ve got the same issue, nothing happen and my combinations are allowed…

    thanks

  • Mai Tien says:

    Cool, thank u!!!

  • karla says:

I’m not having much luck either. I select Content–page path under dimension, then visitor–entrances under metric. I’ve also tried visitor–day under dimension with visitor–entrances under metric. I’m logged in ok because it knows my profiles.
    It could be sweet…

  • Eduardo says:

it looks great!!!Does it have any version for excel 2003?

  • Thomas says:

Im missing support for Mac. Will there be a Mac version Excellent Analytics?

  • Chris says:

I agree it does not work. Installed the plugin for Excel 2007, select some dimensions and metrics and nothing happens!

E.g using a metric of ga:pageviews and a dimension of ga:browser or ga:country results in absolutely nothing happening whatsoever.

  • elg says:

I am having problems too, type in my account details and logs in ok.

Select a date range and valid combination.

Says retreiving data… and nothing happens. The selection window just closes.

  • Same problem here. Read the doc you suggest, and building custom reports in GA to prove that the Dimensions and Metrics should work together. No matter what, no Data in Excel. Would appreciate any assistance, looks like an amazing tool.

  • shrubbie says:

None of the reports are working for me, even if I pick a simple dimension e.g. country along with a simple metric e.g. visitors.

  • caro says:

    Hi

Same problem here: the installation was succesfull but no results came after hitting the “execute” button whatever combination i choose.

Also checked with valid combinations… but nothing :(

  • Yeah, I’m having the same issues. I’m sure I’ve selected valid combinations (e.g., Page Title and Page Views)

  • Maïs says:

    Same problem here…

  • Swathi says:

    Hi,

I’ve tried all the possible valid combinations. It still isn’t giving any results.

any pointers on what could’ve gone wrong?

    Swathi

  • Brian A.M. says:

any plans for an Excel 2003 version?

  • Mark Red says:

We have not yet written a help file. I think you are trying to query a combination of metrics and dimension that is not valid. Read more about valid combinations at http://code.google.com/apis/analytics/docs/gdata/gdataReferenceDimensionsMetrics.html#validCombinations

  • Steve says:

I think there is a problem with the Download File. I am unable to extract the file.

    Thanks

  • sophie says:

    Hi,
just downloaded the application and succesfully installed the plug-in in Excel.

i get a view on the dimensionsand metrics but after selecting several combinations / several profiles hitting the query button results in nothing…

is there a manual/help file somewhere around?

looking forward to actually be able to use the tool :)

  • Humberto says:

The set up stops on when installing .NET framework… actually, it’s like it never started…

looked promising, but I can’t try it out…

  • chouki says:

    Hi,

i tried your plugin but it didn’t work.
Am i the only one ?

    thanks for your answer.

  • Jeff says:

    How do you use it?

  • James Dutton says:

    Mark,

Looks like a great tool, really looking forward to using the application – and very glad you’ve released it as open-source.

However, I’ve had an issue with installation – seems that although I already have a copy of Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for the Microsoft Office system installed on my machine the installer for Excellent Analytics is forcing another install – but has an unresolved path to (I believe) find the libraries online. I’m getting a message telling me that the installer can’t resolve a path.

Hoping this is an easy fix / issue to resolve?

    All the best, James.
